Attack of the diehards
My car has an Obama bumper sticker on the back. I park in the garage at the bus stop downtown. A little over a week ago -- about a week after Hillary Clinton suspended her presidential campaign, my driver's side window had this on it.

Seriously though, the apparent flocking of Hillary supporters to McCain out of pure hatred for Obama blows my mind.

I don't see any flocking, apparent or otherwise. The blog and media coverage is driven by the sheer absurdity of the spectacle.

If someone reigns, they aren't just another "politician". The author has a point. The last time we had a "reigning" monarch, was... OK, so it's King George. My point is that Obama is an actual politician. You know, one who actually works for votes, rather than feeling entitled to them.

More than that, the use of scare quotes is telling. He's not saying that Obama isn't a politician, s/he's saying he isn't a "politician". wink, wink. Get it?

Of course, this is an awfully big effort to give someone credit who probably didn't think that hard about it.

You give the post-it writer way too much credit IMO to think that they used the pseudointellectual construct scare quotes as opposed to the more common unintellectual construct emphasis quotes.

To be fair, in re the "flock" question, I haven't personally met anyone who will vote McCain now that HRC has gone. But they exist, at least, supposedly.

Yes. The use of the word "reigns" has a long list of issues, particularly considering this was over a full week after Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign. -- which itself was nearly a week after Obama had locked in the nomination based on having a majority of pledged and declared delegates.

Who or what does she reign? Short-sighted female supremacists? Paranoid pessimistic one-issue feminists?

To their credit, the post-itter is still supporting Hillary instead of flipping to McCain.

The suggestion that Hillary Clinton is "not just another politician", and that Obama is, is, well, first of all, not proven in any way by this baseless rant, but second, without merit in my book, and the timeline of the campaign pretty much seals it for me.

It's been a painfully surreal primary campaign season, where a whole cadre of supporters of the candidate I didn't like were accusing supporters of my candidate of all manner of characteristics and ploys that were in fact actually being used by their side. While I'm glad my candidate won, I'm sad at the number of people who remain convinced -- even after the question is answered -- that their candidate is superior and viable. Like this person.

PS: Circles above the lowercase Is.... Among other characteristics, my guess is it's not a "he". (But she would assuredly accuse me of sexism for guessing that.) Handwriting analysts are invited to give their own opinion. :)
